Avoiding holiday weight gain is the topic today! We have tackled 3 videos of tips to avoid holiday weight gain. Check out the other videos if you’ve missed them.
Here is the final video with 5 more tips to keeping those pesky pounds off of you! And The last tip is probably the most important tip you’ll get!
Tip #1: Don't Go To a Party Hungry
Always plan ahead. Yes, we want to have fun at the party, however, your health is not seasonal. IF not adding extra pounds over the holidays is a goal for you, you’ll want to plan.
Eat something healthy before you go. You’ll be decreasing those hunger pangs and your temptation to reach for everything on the table.
Like previous videos, remember to ask yourself “are the calories worth it.”
Tip #2: It's OK to say NO!
People love to keep feeding other people, especially at the holiday time. There is ALWAYS a plethora of food available.
If people are sticking food in your face or asking you if you need more, it’s ok to say, “thank you everything is so delicious, however, I’m full. This party is fantastic.”
It really is OK to say no.
Tip #3: Focus on Socializing, Not Eating
Yes there will be food at the party, however, that shouldn’t be your main focus.
Make sure you are talking with family and friends instead of hanging around the food tables. It is too easy to start munching if you are standing at the food table the entire night.
Move yourself AWAY from the food! It’s too easy to stand at the table, continue to fill your plate and eat!
Hopefully your party has some games going that you would be able to participate in!
Tip #4: Stay Hydrated
Stay Hydrated. Now is the time to make sure you are drinking enough water. This can’t be emphasized enough.
Drink a large glass (16-20 oz) of water before you go to that party. Hunger pangs can be deceived as just being thirsty.
Also, studies have shown that when you drink water prior to a meal, you may eat less calories.
It’s OK to be double fisted! One water, one drink. Want to fake out your friends?
Grab a glass that you’d make a vodka tonic in…instead, fill it with water and a lime. Nobody will know the difference!
Typically at these holiday parties we are drinking a few extra drinks anyway. Let’s prevent the hangover as well. Keep drinking the water as being hydrated reduces your hangovers!
Tip #5: HAVE FUN!!
This is the holiday season. Make sure you are out having fun and not stressing over every little detail.
Now is not the time to feel guilty if you are over-indulging. This is why it’s important to feel like the calories are worth it and ask yourself that question. If the food or drink is worth the calories, then there is no need to feel guilty.
