Let’s stop holiday weight gain that many people experience. Are you someone who just throws in the towel over the holidays and eat whatever or do you try to be mindful this time of year?
Where you fit in…
this is the 3rd part of the 4 part series on How to Avoid Holiday weight gain. If you missed the other 2 videos, check them out!
Let’s jump into these 5 tips.
Tip #1: Let's Talk Desserts
This tip may not be one of your favorites.
It’s limit the amount of desserts you eat and be picky about which desserts you choose.
I know. However….
This is the time to get picky. Remember, we’re trying to NOT gain weight over the holidays, we’re trying to maintain our weight.
There is an easy trick…
Decide – which calories are actually worth it!
Choose the dessert that will satisfy you the most! Take a small piece, eat it slowly, and ENJOY the dessert. Savor each and every bite.
When you savor your dessert, you end up eating less of it because you will be satisfied.
This also lets you get rid of any guilt you may have from eating desserts.
If you feel guilty eating foods…we really need to talk.
Tip #2: Liquid Calories
There is a lot of alcohol, pop, and other calorie-rich drinks this time of year. We all know there can be a lot of calories in these drinks.
One trick I like to do is if I’m having a glass of wine, is to then drink a glass of water. Alternate between your alcohol and water.
This way you are staying better hydrated as well. Let me know if you already do this.
Tip #3: Modifying Ingredients
You can still make great tasting recipes with a few modifications.
Here are some ideas:
When baking: Replace butter or oil with applesauce, mashed bananas, or pumpkin puree.
Instead of sugar, use stevia.
When cooking use less butter or oil and use lots of fresh herbs and spices.
Instead of frying you can bake, grill, or steam.
Replace cream cheese, sour cream or mayo with plain greek yogurt.
You get less fat and more protein with greek yogurt (do read the labels to watch for sugar).
Tip #4: How Do Your Clothes Fit?
Pay attention to how your clothes are fitting. This is the big key to see if you are gaining weight over the holidays!
If you’ve seen some of my other videos, you know I’m not a big fan of the scale, and how your clothes fit is what truly matters.
If you feel the need to weigh yourself over the holidays, make sure you are only weighing yourself one time/week and ALWAYS in the morning before you’ve had anything to eat!
The last tip for this video is find an accountability partner over the holidays.
Have someone you are going to check in with to make sure you are staying on track with your goals.
This can be food goals and fitness goals.
I know someone who can help you with both! Schedule a 15 minute phone chat with me, or apply to work with me.
